Correctional Investigator Receives Diamond Jubilee Award

OTTAWA, February 25, 2013 – Correctional Investigator of Canada Howard Sapers has been awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.  In presenting the medal, Senator Grant Mitchell said “I am pleased to recognize Mr. Sapers’ long track record of public service both in my home province of Alberta and in his current role providing leadership to the Office of the Correctional Investigator.  Canadians are well served by the important work performed by Howard and his staff”.

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal marks the 60 th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada.  Canadians of all ages and all walks of life are being honoured for their contributions and distinguished service to their fellow citizens, to their communities and to their country.

The Office of the Correctional Investigator contributes to public safety in Canada by providing external oversight and independent monitoring of the Correctional Service of Canada, which includes timely, impartial and accessible review of offender complaints. The Office makes recommendations consistent with safe and humane custody and the fair and lawful treatment of federally sentenced offenders.
